Workshop Intro To Small Frame Loom Weaving
Instructor: Gale Bautista-Domingues
Class Details
May 18th
Saturday 1-day Workshop
9:00 am to 1:00 pm
No prior experience needed
Weaving is one of the oldest art forms, and once you learn the fundamental techniques, you may experience its meditative process through repetitive hand movements. Frame loom weaving is like a blank canvas that asks you to play with color palettes, fibers and textures by feeling your way through it. With patience and practice, your designs will slowly organically emerge.
In this Intro to Frame Loom Weaving Workshop, participants will learn basic techniques to create a wall tapestry on the simplest of looms, the frame loom. The workshop will cover setting up your loom and classic hand-weaving techniques, including Plain Weave, Soumak, Rya Knots, Rya Loops, and Twine Weave. You’ll learn how to tidy up loose ends, remove the weaving from the loom and hang it on a wooden dowel. Various colorful ropes and yarn will be available for participants to explore for their tapestry. Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about all the tools, materials, and techniques needed to create your woven art to take home—along with the confidence to continue practicing this relaxing fiber art on your own!
All supplies and materials are included, and each student will be given a loom to take home with them.
