You’ll learn how to measure and pin up a hem evenly, how to remove stitches with a seam ripper, mark and cut excess fabric evenly, how to finish raw edges, use the blind hem foot, how to apply hem tape, pressing techniques and more.

The hems you’ll learn by machine:

A topstitched hem, twin needle stitched hem, blindstitch, narrow hem, a rolled hem.

The hems you’ll learn by hand:

The blindstitch, the catchstitch, and the hemming stitch with seam binding.

The teacher will demonstrate hemming techniques, and students will practice the hem on fabric samples provided in a kit with instructions. There will be time allowed at the end of the class for students to work on their own garments that need hemming. Bring clean garment(s) that need hemming to the second session and thread to match if it is an unusual color.
