Beginner Quilting: The Ohio Star Pillow Cover

With Nancy Plominski

Class Details

Friday Nov 1st, 8th and 15th

9:30am-12:00pm

The Ohio Star is a classic quilt block that features the center panel block ‘on point’ which means that the block is set in the quilt on an angle and requires additional triangles to ‘square’ the block.  You only need four fat quarters to make this 18” pillow cover.  You will learn how to make quarter square triangles, how to measure and rotary cut the fabrics, sewing and pressing the seams, and how to make an envelope pillow back.   A fun project that is easier than it looks!

Sewing machines are provided in the classroom but you can bring your own if you prefer and you know how to use it.  We also provide cutting mats, rotary cutters, rulers, and irons.

Supply list:

  • Four Fat quarters of coordinating/contrasting quilt-weight 100% cotton fabric.  A fat quarter is 18” x 22” and can be found at quilt shops and online.  If making two covers, get ½ yard of each.
  • 5/8 yard of cotton or polyester batting or a piece 20” x 20”
  • 18” pillow form
