Quilting for Beginners
You’ll learn cutting, piecing, and quilting techniques while making two projects in this beginner-friendly class: the Quilt-as-You-Go Table Runner and The Ohio Star Pillow Cover.
“Quilt as you go” means that when the top is done, so is the quilting. This technique is perfect for beginners and those new to quilting.
Using a variety of cotton fabrics and scraps, you will learn how to make a table runner for any size table. You will also learn how to rotary cut different size strips, sew ¼” seams, pressing techniques, and make and sew quilt binding with mitered corners. The class sample table runner is 14” x 40”; however, you can make it the length you choose.
The Ohio Star is a classic quilt block that features the center panel block ‘on point’ which means that the block is set in the quilt on an angle and requires additional triangles to ‘square’ the block. You only need four fat quarters to make this 18” pillow cover. You will learn how to make quarter square triangles, measure and rotary cut the fabrics, sew and press the seams, and make an envelope pillow back. This is a fun project that is easier than it looks!
Please bring the following supplies to all sessions
Sewing machines are provided in the classroom. You are welcome to bring your own machine if you know how to use it. We also offer: cutting mats, rotary cutters, rulers, and irons.
