Hems

Basic sewing machine experience is necessary. This class covers hemming with a sewing machine and hand-sewing techniques. You’ll learn how to measure and pin up a hem evenly, mark and cut off excess fabric evenly, press, and finish the raw edges.

The hemming techniques you’ll learn by machine:

A topstitched hem, a twin needle-stitched hem, and a narrow hem.

The hems you’ll learn by hand:

The blindstitch, the catchstitch, and the hemming stitch.

The hems will be demonstrated by the teacher, and students will practice the hemming technique on samples provided in a kit with instructions.
