Intermediate Sewing

Prerequisite: Learn to Sew for Beginners

 Description: 

Take your sewing skills to the next level in our Intermediate Sewing class. Building on the machine skills introduced in Beginner Sewing, this course reinforces core techniques while guiding students through more advanced construction and finishing methods. 

Over six weeks, students will complete three projects: a lined tote bag with a pocket, a lightweight jacket, and a quilted zippered pouch.

The session begins with pattern review and body measurements to select the correct size for the jacket. Students will learn how to evaluate fabric requirements and make pattern alterations when needed. Construction begins with a tote bag featuring lining and a pocket, reinforcing precision cutting and assembly. 

Students will then work with lightweight fabric to construct the jacket, learning French seams, bias binding to finish raw edges, and narrow hems. Emphasis is placed on accurate cutting, clean seam finishes, and thoughtful garment construction from start to finish. 

The course concludes with quilting cotton and constructing a fully lined zippered pouch, introducing zipper installation and layered assembly techniques. 

Throughout the session, students develop greater control, accuracy, and confidence while strengthening their understanding of pattern use, fabric behavior, seam finishing, and structured construction.

Students will just need to purchase and bring fabric for the jacket and pouch.
