For those with beginner sewing skills or have taken our Adult Beginner Sewing.
Sewing this large tote bag will reinforce the techniques learned in our Adult Beginner Sewing class and introduce some new ones. Students will learn about laying out a pattern, measuring, cutting, sewing straight seams, applying interfacing, topstitching, edge stitching, pressing, making fabric handles, and lining. This tote is great for carrying projects to class or heading to the beach.
The pattern will be provided in class.
Please bring the following required supplies to all sessions:
- The main fabric: suitable fabrics: quilt-weight cotton, canvas, and light to medium-weight denim. For 45” wide get 1 1/8 yards, for 54-60” wide get 5/8 yard.
- Contrast fabric for the bottom and handles: suitable fabrics: medium-weight canvas, twill, denim. 1 yard
- Pellon 45” wide Heavyweight Fusible fleece: 1 ¼ yards
- Pellon 70W sew-in stabilizer: ¼ yard
- All-purpose polyester thread to match fabrics (brands: Mettler, Gutterman, or Coats)
Sewing machines and tools are provided in the classroom, or you can bring your own.
If you bring your machine, you must know how to use it.
