Over the course of this program, you will delve into the art and science of interior decorating, acquiring essential skills to craft aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces.
Led by experienced and talented instructor Kathy Morris, our Interior Decorating class offers a dynamic curriculum encompassing various aspects of design theory, color psychology, space planning, and furniture arrangement. Through hands-on projects, you’ll master the art of harmonizing different elements to create stunning interior spaces that cater to diverse client needs and preferences.
Immerse yourself in the latest industry trends and innovative design concepts, keeping abreast with cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. As part of the program, you will also explore the world of materials, textiles, and accessories, honing your ability to curate and source the perfect items for any design project.
Module I – 3 Sessions – Elements of Interior Decorating, Functions of Space, Floor Planning, Use of a Grid, Proportions, Measurements and Scale.
Module II – 3 Sessions – Sketching and Perspective Drawing for Interior Decorating, Furniture Types, Styles, Types of Flooring, Wood Types, Carpeting, Window Treatments, Wall Coverings, Fabrics, Pillows and Accessories, Placement & Selection.
Module III – 3 Sessions – Custom Furniture & Showrooms to the Trade, Color and Light, Color Wheel, Color Terms, Paint and Finishes, Types of Lighting, Lighting Principles, Lighting for Different Spaces
Module IV – 3 Sessions – Art and Accessories, Wall Groupings, Client Presentations, The Business of Decorating, Consulting and Compensation, Branding and Start-Up.
To earn a Certificate of Completion:
- A student must attend 12 3-hour sessions for a total of 36 clock hours.
- If a student misses a class and does not make up the hours, a student will not receive the certificate of completion.
- Students must complete all coursework and assignments.
*Some sessions will meet at designated showrooms.
