Beginner Quilting: Snowball Pillowcase

This class is great for beginners interested in quilting because it is not a big investment in time and materials.  Students must have basic sewing and machine skills.
The snowball is a deceptively easy and versatile quilt block for beginners.  This pattern is called a snowball block because it is an optical illusion designed to resemble circles from a distance.  It fits a standard size bed pillow (20” x 26”).  You will learn how to use a rotary cutter, rulers, and mat to measure and cut the squares, sew ¼” seams, how to match up seams, pressing, and a basic quilting technique.

Supply list:

  1. 1 ¼ yards of 100% quilt weight cotton for the back, borders, & squares
  2. ¼ yard of four different quilt weight cotton prints or solids for the “snowballs” OR four fat quarters
  3. 5/8 yard of cotton or polyester batting OR a scrap of batting 21” x 27” or larger
  4. One spool of all-purpose cotton or polyester thread to match background fabric

Sewing machines are provided in the classroom but you may bring your own if you prefer.  We also provide cutting mats, rotary cutters, rulers, and irons.
