Sewing Workshop: Quilted Hexagon Star
With Nancy Plominski
Class Details
Beginner Level. This easy hexagon star is a great project for the beginner to intermediate level quilter. The quilt has prairie points, three borders, and a neatly finished edge that looks like binding, but the technique taught is much easier than applying binding. The finished hexagon quilt is approximately 15” by 17” and works on a table, or as a small wall hanging. It makes a nice holiday gift too. You will learn how to use a rotary cutter, ruler, mat, sew quarter inch seam allowances, and quilting. Prerequisite: basic sewing or quilting skills. Pattern and instructions are included.
Supply list:
- Four different cotton prints or solids that contrast:
- ¼ yard of two different 100% cotton prints or solids, and
- ¾ yard of the fourth fabric used for the back, a border, and points on the front.
- 3/8 yard for the center of the “star” is amenable to a large fabric motif, such as a flower, fruit, animal, etc., and fussy cutting
- One spool of All-Purpose thread in a neutral color or to match the back fabric
- Batting: one piece approximately 20 inches square (or 5/8 yd) of cotton, polyester, or a blend. Insul-brite is suitable if using this project as a hot-pad.
